It's been just over a year since I started knitting. A lot of crazy things happened, are still happening, and life has those moments when it royally stinks.
But knitting (and crocheting) has been the calming moments within the storm. Repetition, for me, is soothing, no thinking to be done, and my brain can just stop spinning and just focus on the stitches. On the lovely texture of the yarn. On how each individual stitch interconnects with the next and together, each of those little stitches form together to create something beautiful and functional.
It's definitely something that takes one's mind off of the crazy things going on in the world.
In other news, I finished those gorgeous Hermione's Everyday Socks finally (Three Irish Girls Adorn sock in Bryn):

Let's see, I also finished the cowl that I was crocheting while my father was in the hospital (Expression Fiber Arts Pearlescent Worsted). As my second crochet project ever, I think it turned out wonderfully - and so touchable! Chandi at Expression Fiber Arts is a genius with textures and colors.
What else have I completed? Ah, yes, my crowning moment of the year: Finishing the VeryBusy Monkey Disentangled Shawl MKAL. This was one of the most wonderful projects to complete and I'm so proud of how it turned out. The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts' Silky Victoria in Sunstone, which is a truly phenomenal colorway, as you can tell.
This shawl has become one of my favorite handmade accessories. It's deliciously soft, lightweight, but warm on a chilly autumn day. By the way, the edging on this is knit separately from the body of the shawl. It starts at one corner and is knit as a mock cable. I can't remember, it's like 10 or 12 stitches, but it goes so very quickly. I am almost tempted to try this pattern with the middle part repeated for all three wedges, but that might be a teeny bit beyond my patience level right now (ha!). |
Here's a Throwback Thursday photo for you - this was one of the very first projects I did, waaaay back last October. I still absolutely love the feel of these needles, as they're smooth, yet heavy in my hands and clickity clack so nicely.
